Have you noticed that if you press the acceleration pedal whilst stationery the max it goes to is 2500 revs?? Why is this??

Just a thought, but maybe it's an engine protection feature?

I'm curious why you'd want to sit in the car and rev at 2500rpm and not go anywhere, though  - I haven't even done that in gear!

Last week I thought the car was making a weird noise, so I sat and revved it, but noticed it only went to 2500. For a split second I though something was wrong until I took it for a drive round the block and saw tha when in motion its fine.

Its a built in soft limiter to stop warranty claims from abused clutches/gearboxes.

This is an ecu rev limit in place when car is stationary. A protection feature on modern ecu's.

However this is also a mild version of launch control or at least can be used to aid a launch if one was inclined to do so.

My evo's standard ecu had this feature but at 4.5k rpm, which meant for perfect launches at the drag strip, not sure you would really want to do this in the golf though.

If it won't rev beyond 2500rpm how will they do the MOT emission test when the time comes?

Might have to be on the brake rollers
