Hi, this is my first post. I've just bought my first VW, a 99 Passat Sport 110TDi estate, a few bits to sort but very happy so far. I'm wondering if anyone can help, no remote fobs came with the car and the boot only locks and unlocks with the key, it doesn't operate with the central locking. Any ideas ?
Cheers, Simon.:1zhelp:

Yes,

I will post a link on here where u can buy a VW remote central locking key CHEAP!!! (VW charge hell of alot of money for these)

Once you got the key take it to VW and have it cut and programmed, Cost me £27 last time i had my key cut & programmed.

***Please remember to buy the right model key though, the link i sent you is model HLO 1KO 959 753***

The locks are programmable in a myriad of ways using VAG COM, have you tried turning the key twice? the second time should unlock the boot.

http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/images/icons/icon7.gifHave you checked the physical position of the lock as I seem to remember that turned in one position it remains locked for security reasons? Turned either through 90/180 degs.(?) it will work with the central locking.
Did you get a handbook with it, my estates a 2002 but i doubt that particular feature has changed, I can double check in my handbook if you havn't got one?http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif

Gramey is right......

Open the tailgate and look at the slot in the lock.

Horizontal = Opens with central locking.

Vertical = Opens with the key fob or the button on the drivers door.

Thanks for your help. The boot doesn't respond at all to central locking with the barrel in any position, it just remains unlocked. I have to lock the tailgate with the key to horizontal position, that's the only way it will lock. I've tried operating the key in the offside door a few times but the boot doesn't respond to anything. I need to get a fob or two as i'm having to do everything with the key at the moment.
Thanks for the link to the remote fob. I think mine will be the 2 button one though as I know of two people with a 99 passat estate and a 00 saloon and they've both got 2 button ones. I will probably get it from ebay though. There's a place in Bradford who can cut and programme the keys/fobs so I may go to him with a fob or two.
Thanks, I got a handbook with the car but just the single key and the emergency key, the six figure code for the key is missing though.
Can anyone confirm which fob I need, like I said above both people I know of with a 99 and a 00 have a 2 button fob, is it the 433mhz one that's on ebay for £36.99 ? link below.

search around on the internet there is a special way of programming key fobs. You put one in the door and one in the ignition and press a sequence and turns. Saves VW dealers charing the earth.

I had a similar problem with my '98 car, the wiring connector plug was disconnected, it was in the area above the left side wheelarch. Mine also had a few electrical items on the tailgate not working, fed by same plug. I think the number plate lights and high level brake light, can't remember for sure, it was a long time ago!
