VW Golf Mk IV 1.6 Petrol.

Dash board says "Emissions Workshop" when the engine is started. Called out the VW Assist chap. He plugged in his computer and then wrote on the report form:

"17604 02 Sensor heater. Circuit bank 1 sensor malfunction"

I think that he said that the sensor would cost around £100. However, I read this report out to the VW garage on the phone, and they reckoned it will be £250.

Does anyone know what sort of cost is involved in rectifying this type of fault??

Cheers for the info.

Presumably the VW garage is going to be fitting genuine parts, hence the cost difference. Is the genuine part really this expensive (the £250)?

If it's a non genuine sensor, are there any issues with it's performance or how the car's computer judges it to be performing?

Thanks!

depends on the manufacturer
bosch and ntk are the ones made for VW/AUDI
ive fitted several ntk units and had no problems
find a reputable specialist to keep cost down if needed
