Hi all, my first post so please be gentle

We have a 2002 Golf tdi Se (110 Red "i") car and are considering a new Golf Tdi. My question is has anyone driven the new 1.6 Tdi 105 PS and if so can they make a comparison with the old 110 engine?

I don't think I need the 140 engine but I don't want to go to a lesser powered one than the 110 we have.

Also I am thinking of the 1.6 tdi 105 PS DSG version if that makes any difference?

Any help appreciated.

Al.

I didn't think they were still making the non-PD engines in '02, are you sure it's not a 100, or a 130?

Maybe it is a 100 but the badge has a red "i" so I assumed it was a 110 engine. I'll need to check the book when my other half gets home.

or look in the spare wheel well, there should be a sticker in there with the engine code and power (in kW)

BTW, it's very easy to get a badge and stick it on, if you know what I mean.!

It's a 77KW

So its the 105bhp model.

I was rreading a review regarding the 1.6TDI in the new Polo and its a little rocket, not read much as yet regarding the overall feeling in the Golf..

But if its producing 77KW or 105BHP its going to feel nippy around the town and happy to cruise on the motorway.

The 140's superb and you may not need it as such, but it's always nice to have a bit more 'oompf' on tap for getting past those lorries on long single track roads.

You won't notice any reduction in power terms between the 105 and the 110 you currently have, in fact it may feel faster due to the extra smoothness of power delivery and improved efficiency of the engine. It will certainly be streets ahead in terms of refinement.

However I thoroughly recommend that you test drive the 140 diesel before making a decision, as for me 105 is just too weak.

I would be interested to know the gross weight of the 1.6 TDI SE (which we have ordered), compared to the outgoing 2.0 110 SE. The latter has/had a gross weight of 1870kgs, according to the brochure. (No brochure for the 1.6 yet, even though it's being manufactured! VWUK are still sending out the April 09 brochure).
My interest is to compare the two, as the 1.6 is slightly less powerful on paper.

I found a standard model 1.6 Tdi 105 PS - SE and have ordered it, should be here end of August which is pretty exciting!
I heard the Wolksburg plant is pretty busy because the German scrappage scheme is a good one and has been an outstanding success, and of course they are keen on buying a good car built in their own country.

You say that you "found" the car, can you clarify? Is it a factory order car? If so, when did you place your order? Our late June ordered car (the same as yours) won't be with us until late September, early October.

I went to put an order in for an 1.6 tdi 105 ps se on 1st December. The following day I had a phone call saying they had found me one for a delivery of two weeks time. Nearly exact spec to what I was going to order and I got it £1500 cheaper! As anybody got any true mpg readings for this model. I'd being hoping for 55 mpg!

I've managed 62mpg on a 125 mile A road trip (hire car) tootling along in the traffic at 50mph and not going mad on dual carriagewat sections (ie under 75mph). The return 125miles was a bit more like my normal driving, and overall the total average came in at 57mpg.

If you use the cruise control at 70-75mph on motorways and at 50-55mpg on A roads, you should be able to see over 55mpg, if not over 60mpg once run in.

You will get 55mpg easy once it has been run in, on my 26 mile commute to work which includes start stop city/town driving country roads, bust traffic and national speed limit country roads I get 55 mpg no problem on the motorway i have got 70mpg+ up the A1 3 weeks ago.

I've travel 26 miles to work, with a bit a city driving, so anywhere in the mid fifties would be good! Will be trading in a 1.4 d4d Yaris, and I could only get 59 on average out of that!

As long as theres not to much traffic you will be in the 50s no problem, I would get 60+ mpg however living yorkshire means steep inclines and roads on hills which probley knock around 4 mpg of my average :zx11:

49 MPG not bad To be honest The 55 mpg figure i get each day involves no eco driving or fuel saving measures just normal driving. I am thinking what i could get if i drove eco style

I get 53 mpg generally from the MK3, i got 58mpg when diesel prices were silly 18 months ago and i was a bit more sedate :D

I've just replaced a 110BHP 'T' reg. MK4 GTTDI golf with a 1.6TDI MK 6.
I think your golf is a 115BHP model.
I've only covered about 1000 miles on my new golf so any comments I make have to judged against this low mileage.
I find that the low speed torque is much reduced so much so that you have use gearbox much more. Also the early fuel consumption is much more than I had anticipated. Just returned from a christmas 150 mile mainly motorway drive and the best I could get was 52MPG driving very sedately . At this speed my old MK 4 would give at least 60MPG . Such is the mark of progress !
When evaluating the MK 6 look at the minature 'space saver sparewheel' .If you remove it and place it next to one of the car wheels you will soon know what I mean . Also be aware that the SE spec. and higher golfs have reflection problems in the side windows (above the mirrors - caused by the bright trim on the air outlet trims) .

The GT has this issue but it is hardly a problem. After a few days of driving you don't notice it.

How many miles was the run-in required in order to get those figures? I didn't managed to get above 46 on a Christmas day motorway run which should have been pretty good for a high MPG. After the journey I'm on 800 miles so should be getting there?

I got it from day 1 mate, first few days i got 50mpg, 49 mpg, 52mpg now i can get 50+ plus I just drive normal no eco driving just my normal style. On the motorway i get 60+ all the time sometimes 70 if its a good day.

I have made no modifcations in anyway and also have big alloys 17 " with low profile tyres no eco tyres for me ! :p

But in the next few weeks i am going to see my mpg drop big time as i start my new job which is only 6 miles away from my house at the end of January. This golf is made for long journeys not that good on short journeys so will be very rare for me to see 50 +plus once i start the new job.

800 miles is nothing mate you need to let get more miles on the clock , do not use the silly gear shift indicator it just makes you change gear to soon, use cruise control if you can helps big time, check tyre pressures, remove any heavy weight from the car. If you do the above you will get 50+ no problem.
