Hello
I own an A6 C6 2.0 TDI SE 2006.
I have recently purchased 19 " RS4 rims and they came with 235/35 tyres, which to me seem to be pretty small and not filling the gap under the wings.
I was looking to buy some tyres which are big enough to fill the gap in, but at the same time I am afraid to buy something too big.
Could someone please advise me about this matter?
245/40s? 245/45s? 255/45s?

I* would really appreciate it. thank you,
another AUDI fan...

Hi,

I have an A6 2.0TDi Le Mans 2009, which is fitted with 19" wheels as standard. The tyres for my car are 255/35 ZR19 96Y Extra Load, so assuming your wheels are the same size as mine (8.5J x 19), you should go for the same size tyre to maintain the correct rolling diameter.

thanks,
my problem is that 255/35 is wider, but the tyre itself is not higher thus the same gap. do u know what i mean?

The 35 refers to the % of the tyre that forms the sidewall; so as you want large side wall you would need to increase that % (if you didn't want to change the rim size) - so 255/45 would fill the arches better - but as someone says you need to check that this is an approved fitment for this model otherwise it might impact speedo etc.

255/35 would be higher than 235/55 as you are talking 55% of 255 vs 55% of 235!

The 255/35 would be slightly bigger diameter than 235/35 - 7mm more radius to be precise.

If you make the tyre a larger diameter, which you can only do by increasing the rim size, the width or the aspect ratio, then you'll change the looks, but you'll also change the rolling radius, which will affect your gearing and your speedo reading.

What size tyres were on the car as standard? You really want a plus one, plus two or plus three arrangement to keep the same rolling radius.

If you need detailed info on tyre sizing and gearing, I recommend googling for the tyre bible

Hi,

If your problem is that the gap between the top of the tyre and the bottom of the wheelarch is too large, your best bet is to modify the suspension to lower the car. Your SE has the comfort suspension, which rides higher than the S-Line suspension fitted to S-Line models. You could do a straight swap of the springs, dampers and bump stops to S-Line spec to lower the car, but the tradeoff is that it would give you a harder ride than your current setup. As Nick says, fitting the wrong size tyres will affect your gearing, speedo, odometer and trip computer, so it's probably not a good idea to go down this route.

I can recommend the s-line suspension :) I don't find it to hard at all and the confidence it gives in cornering is great!!

Eibach pro kit would lower it nicely.
