PD TDi head gaskets - a weakness??

I've had two VW PD TDi 115's and the head gaskets went on both (one at 36K the other at 82K). I suspect coolant neglect by the previous owners was partly to blame? But I would be interested in how many people have had head gaskets go on PD diesels and why?

I still think they are great engines - my current car is a 130 TDi.
