Hi people got a prob with an A2 1.6 fsi logging a misfire on cyl's 1,2 & 3 then another code of just misfire, codes are;

vw 16684 or p0300 misfire
vw 16685 or p0301 misfire cyl #1
vw 16686 or P0302 misfire cyl #2
vw 16687 or p0303 misfire cyl #3

no code for cyl#4!

all pencil coils & plugs replaced still getting codes present
all compressions are good no visable probs with wiring etc

basically the car drives well no lack of power and no misfire but malfunk light comes on and flashes all these codes are then present but car has not missed a beat.

anyone heard of any software updates or wiring/ecu issues?

cheers jb

Hi jb, just had a look on my autodata and it says same for all cylinders..

Engine mechaanical fault,wiring,ignition/fuel system,injector,ECT/MAF sensor,ECM

plenty to choose from, could be costly just replacing parts, I would either find a local Delphi Diesel agent or wait till something does go wrong... :beerchug:

Cheers steve;

the 1.6 fsi is a petrol not diesel but thanks anyway.
problem hopefully solved as oxygen sensor has been modified (it has a knock sensor attatched to it) and also needed and full ecu re-set, but if problem happens again the injectors can cause the problem.

thanks again john :beerchug:

A NOX (various oxides of nitrogen) sensor, not knock sensor is incorporated into the oxygen sensor, said quickly NOX and knock can sound very much alike.

seen this before and repair is new ecu and injectors honest i will dig the technical repair out for you but i did one last year mil comes on after 2 weeks of resetting there is from memory a time limit for the injectors and the sw version of the ecu which at the time there was no software update available so new ecu fitted and that sorted it

ok random misfires logged no running issue

Because of delayed combustion the engine speed impulse sender recognises an irregularity in the crankshaft rotation. This leads to an entry in the memory. The internal adaptation values in the engine control unit have reached a limit from which they cannot return.

Disconnect the engine control unit for at least 2 hours from the power supply to reset the internal memory of the engine control unit.

If the complaint cannot be rectified, replace the injection valves

As said i had to replace the engine ecu as the suggested reset did not work

I have had to replace injectors on the BAD code engine for this.

hi crasher soz for very late reply,

from what i can make out after lots of basic (compressions, wiring etc) testing & lots of live data analasys on road test, after the front or pre cat o2 sensor was replaced with the updated version, the ecu needed a full reset by disconecting the battery for a min of 2 hours as all of the fueling upper limits had been reached, i found alot of info out from a company called erwin audi, you have to pay a small amount for an hour but you have got alot know probs and all w/s manuals to scan through.

cheers again

jb
