View Full Version : Grating noise from the front of my polo

I have VW Polo1.4 CL that was involved in a minor accident, which seemed to have only damage to the front bodywork. This was repaired at a local workshop (not VW), and the vehicle put back on the road. However, when turning to the extreme left (when parking for example), a grating noise comes from the are of the offside front wheel.
I have taken the car into my local VW garage for a service and they have told me that the drive shaft could be rubbing against the subframe or that the subframe itself is twisted. They tell me that the subframe has been pushed back by 10mm and that they cannot connect the equipment to do a geometry check. Either way it seems that this is going to be a costly repair as the subframe will need to be replaced.

It all sounds a bit final as the car drives well, corners without trouble and apart from the grating noise it’s a very sound little car. Does anyone have any ideas how I can try to keep the car on the road?
