Have a 2003 A6 2.4 V6 Automatic, Have been told that the gearbox on this model is problomatic, judderes when slowing down to stop at junctions and lights, not driven automatci before, is it normall or do i need to blow all my savings on repairs?

Multitronic in VAG parlance, I call it the Multichronic-an absolute joke of a box that can cost £5K to replace. Try having the fluid changed (a specialist job) and if that does not cure it, you are looking at a clutch pack at the least which is £1.5K fitted, maybe even a full recon box. I pronounced one dead a few weeks back (one of many) and gave him a price for an exchange Audi box, about £4.5K fitted. He went off and had it done by an auto box company and came back in last week for a separate issue (turbo over boost on a 2.0 TDI) and feeling smug that he had got it done for £2K less than I quoted but when I came back from a test drive, I told him the box was juddering and he should go back. As far as I was concerned, he had thrown his £2.5K down the drain.

Hi Crasher, That info is a bit of a worry - £4.5K! Am I right in assuming that my 2.5 TDI 2005 Allroad is tiptronic (not multitronic) and not subject to all the horror stories I hear on here? Although mine does judder very slightly coming to a full stop in slow moving traffic!!

Completely different type of box.

I didn’t say it was nothing to worry about, just not the same problem. :D

Yes, fair enough, any idea's on what it might be? Judder when coming to a halt when going very slowly, more noticable when the car is warm, its as if the brakes has let go for a second. Always had Auto boxes and never come across this before, its never got worse or better over the 5 months I've had the car!

I would have the fluid and pan filter changed and see if that helps.
