I have a 2003 A4 Avant TDI 130, I was on the motorway the other day with cruise control on, whilst doing 70mph i was averaging 55mpg, and at 80mph 55.3mpg.

In 6th gear, is there an optimum speed to be driving at?

I remember a friend having a Peugoet 106 1.1, and in his manual it advised the optimum speed in 5th was 72mph (cant remember exactly).

Just thought it was strange that I was going faster and improving my mpg at the same time :biglaugh: happy days.

Oh and if anyone ever doubts the use of redex, I have used it on my last 5 tanks and it has worked wonders.

firstly the peugeot only has 5 gears
with the Audi the 6th gear is a higher ratio so it will rev lower hence use less fuel
i have heard people get higher than this but they must drive like a grandad
using redex will keep the fuel system/injector nozzles clear
