Hi,

after searching high and low for a 1.8t within my budget 2k, its seems like it’s impossible to find one without it being driven to the moon and back 135k etc......


so I came across a a3 1.8se well within my budget, what are these engines like?

obviously won’t be as quick, but how slow is it? does it surfer from the same problems like the 1.8t does? like the water pump and oil pump etc...?

what’s 0-60 on it?

I’m guessing not much tuning possibilities?

better mpg compared to the 1.8t?

Hi mate

To be honest high mileage isnt really a problem on these engines as long as they have been maintained well, my other half picked up a 1.8t for under 2k with service history with 125k, which was good enough to convice me to buy an S3....so I did lol.
But regarding the 1.8se they arent overly quick realy from memory a little slower than the 106 GTI
But yes cambelt waterpump etc, all the usual stuff applys to this model as well

god! the 1.8 non turbo drinks fuel for what it is!

viewing a a3 turbo tonite hopefully it looks goods :-)

4 Cylinder? For some reason (probably the 20v bit) I was under the impression that the A3 1.8 petrol was a 5 Cylinder.

Easy mistake my friend, it has 5 valves per cylinder, to enhance performance
