engine temp light always flashing

could anyone help my engine temp light just keeps flashing evan when you first start it up this is on a 1984 8 valve gti please help me!!!!!!!

Does the coolant expansion tank have a sensor in the middle?

hi i checked the tank and it did have a plug on it i notice that thr wire was hangin out so i have wireed it back up with new connectors
