...but I wonder why this includes a sharkfin antenna rather than than the beesting aerial.

My mobile phone isn't hardwired into the system, but does the facility exost to do so, and therefore use the sharkfin antenna to improve mobile phone signal?

The bluetooth uses something called rsap with means it takes the detail from the sim card in your phone and uses them itself. Your phone is then disabled and in effect the bluetooth becomes your phone.
advantage - Stronger signal, does not rundown phone battery, tighter integration.
Disadvantage - limited phone support, call lists, txt messaged are not sync between phne and car

Ah, that makes sense - unfortunately! I take the rSap system then uses it's own aerial - hence the sharkfin?

My phone does seem to sync messages, though, and I can read new ones in the MFD screen.

yes but are those messages which you receive in the car present on the phone when you get out of the car
