I have just bought a '91 100 2.3e manual which is down on power. When driving up through the gears the car feels sluggish and only really gets going on full throttle when even then its not that quick. The problem is I dont know where to look as it drives really well and smooth. It recently had a cambelt fitted so I checked the valve timing and ignition timing and both are spot on. Ive had a 2.2 and 2.3e auto in the past and both where very sprightly compared to this one. Its only done 100k with FSH.
I'm driving it to Spain in September so I need it on full song for then.
Any help appreciated.

They have very limited fault code ability but it is worth seeing what is stored if you can find one with equipment that will read the codes, I don’t think VAG-COM will do it so I use my old Omitec machine that will read flash codes on very early OBD Audi’s. They are extremely difficult engines to set up, you need to find someone who knows exactly how to perform an NF’s basic settings, even an Audi dealer many no longer have anyone left who knows how to do one. I have the book for the NG which is the same but I have not done one for years although they are similar to the 9A 2L 16v and I still do a few of those.

You should invest in this tome that I have;
