View Full Version : A6 Avant indicator failure

The indicator lights have stopped working properly in the indicator mode eg on/off. They simply come on and stay on - Have checked and all bulbs appear to work, there are no warning light failure indications on the dashboard. The indicator lights on the dashboard simply come on and do not wink on/off -which is what the external lights are doing -understand it is dangerous as other drivers may not realise and miss the signals.

Any ideas - want to avoid expensive garage visit if at all possible.
Just hoping its not a serious electrical issue.
Many thanks for any help / suggestions on this.

It's a 2005 1.9tdi avant.

Do the hazard lights work?

The indicators and the hazard lights are flashed by the hazard light switch. There are actually 2 flasher units built into the switch. The indicator one fails first.

You can either replace the whole switch, or there is a how-to on here showing how to use 2 broken switches and replace the indicator unit on one with the hazard unit form the other. (But I can't seem to find it right now - sorry)

Would you look at that - I post that I can't find it, and 10 seconds later, I do. It's actually on Audiworld (http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec160.shtml) Originally linked to from this thread (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=29011)

Don't brace yourself too much or you'll get whiplash. A new switch is only £24 genuine from Audi dealer. :p

Did the job on my own A6. 5mins work.
