Looks alright but extremely overpriced for what it is. I'd much prefer a faster and cheaper Golf GT TSI 160, or a cheaper and better equippped Scirocco GT TDI 170.

Agreed. I just don't see why anyone would buy the GTD. If you want adequate performance and the best fuel economy, buy the 140ps diesel GT. If you want 0-60 in 8s, buy the 160ps petrol GT.

The GT has a nicer standard interior than the GTD - the alcantara makes it look more expensive - and the front end looks better. The GTI and GTD look like they're at the dentists with their mouths held wide open with clamps.

I still haven't seen a Mk6 that looks nicer than a black GT on Vancouvers.

Completely agree with nebw. The GTI looks awful, and the GTD is almost as bad.

The 160TSI is 0.1s faster 0-60, but through the gears the GTD will leave the TSI for dead. The 170TDI will keep up with the GTI in the 40-80mph range. It's only that initial turbo lag and too much initial torque to put down that power that knocks back the 0-60 time. Look at the TT 170 TDI, with Quattro as standard to put down that power, the 0-60 time is 7.5s.

Saying that, I do think VW are taking liberties with the pricing of the GTD, and with the 170TDI Scirocco.

The New Golf GTI and GTD aren't great in the external looks department, the wheels are the only not-so-subtle hint that these are performance models, I think this is a general issue with the MK6 Golf. The standard MK6 Golf is a visual improvement over the standard MK5, but the performance models don't give you much more, and definitely stand out less than the MK5 performance models.

The 170TDI Scirocco costs £400 more than the GTI equivalent engined 2.0TSI Scirocco, and the GTD costs a whopping £2800 more than it's MK5 predecessor, giving you different (but comparable in size and value) alloys, dual zone climate and GTI style cloth on the seats (nothing that should add more than about £600 to the list price in total).

That GTD looks dull next to the old MK5 GT Sport.
