They are made for different types of oil... I would of thought the TDI one wont be as good as the Petrol one as the oil is thicker..

I wouldnt do it... but its your call....

Do it.. and let us know the out come at your expense! lol

The "larger" OEM filters, part number 068-115-561B, will put your capacity at about 4.1qt. These are the "upgraded" filter spec'd out with the VW502 requirements the VW put out back in 2004. They are made by Mann from what I remember. These are the ones I use right now. I'll be going with the Mannolator next change though. The Purolator part number is L30257.

The original filter capacity when attached is about 3.9qt. If you go to somewhere like Advanced Auto this is the size they'll spec out in their computers for you. The Purolator part number is L20252. I'm pretty sure the original part number for this one is 06A-115-561B. Do not use this size unless you cannot get anything else. It works fine, it's just smaller then it should be. Passat WorldThis is from Passat World forum and gives the VAG part numbers for the different 1.8T filters.

So to clarify use the 2004 onwards passat 1.8T filter instead, is that right?

going to flush the engine tomorrow so need to know the ideal oil... been told to call the previous service center and ask what they use??

Is this right?

thought i would put something high quality in there and stick with a single brand from now on?

Yes.

You should use a fully synthetic to VW 502.
Any 502 will do:
