I need to change the oil on my 2.0 tdi golf and would like to know is it possible to change the oil using one of those drainers that go down the dip tube or do you have to remove the sump plug?

You have to remove the sump plug. And you absolutely must use the right oil in these.

Yea cause you can use a extractor if its good enuf we always use them, just make sure u pull out all 4 litres, saves u alota time removing the undertray, and the best oil to use is ow 30 castrol slx longlife 3

Surely this leaves all the crud in the bottom of the sump wheras draining through the sump plug washes it out with the oil?

That's strange cause iv worked for a main dealer for 4 years and we use 0w 30 castr slx longlife on all the mk5 because vw reccomend it themselves, comes with that oil in from factory and we have had no come backs, its the right oil for the mk5s, not mk4s cus its to thin, ul also get more power and mpg out of this oil, we stock 1000s of bottles of this, and yea it will leave a little cauze in the bottome of sump but nothing major and the strainer and filter will catch anything dangerous, it is best to remove the sump plug but u can do it with a extractor

so long as the oil you use is the correct 507 / 506 or whatever number is for your engine, then it doesn't make one iota of difference which brand you choose.

there are loads out there to choose from. Sorry to say, but the dealers are the more expensive end of the market upwards of £13 to £15 per litre.

If you research properly and look at the data sheets on oil companies websites, then you'll save a bit of £££.

fortunately for me, i can get a cheap supply due to my work.
