AMI is retro fit-able by your local Audi center for £399

I have a leaflet to confirm this.

I will photo it and upload it in the next couple of days.

Audi Music Interface.... it allows you to connect an Ipod to the car in a better way which allows you to control all the functions of your Ipod via the controls on the steering wheel.

The standard Aux in socket means you still have to control the ipod, the AMI allows the car to control it.

Make sense?

In my opinion the best thing about AMI is the ability to connect a hard drive to it. I'd want something in there permanently, so a cheap hard drive that I could leave in the glove box would be a better solution than constantly connecting and disconnecting my iPod after each journey. A regular hard drive's also cheaper to replace - I wouldn't like to guess how long the iPod's hard drive would last with the constant rumble whilst driving.

Anyway, glad I held out and didn't buy the AMI last month. For my s-line with nav, the dealership quoted me £385 (£180 for the the AMI unit, £40 for the cabling and £165 for the replacement glovebox needed to house it all in) and it didn't include installation. The service guy also told me that a few weeks earlier he'd fitted one into a Q7, and it cost the owner more than £700! I'll have to take them up on this new offer, thanks for the info.

Hi...

I read many posts on other forums were they have connected up a
Western Digital 250GB/320GB Portable Hard Drive via the AMI using the AMI to mini USB connection lead.

That's what I'll be doing.
