I have an A6 estate avanti, N reg full service history, 10100 miles.
The engine turns but wont fire, it will start with jump from other car.
It runs fine untill switched off and left for an hour.
I fitted a new battery and the fault is the same.
Also once started after a few minutes the water Temp warning light comes on

First up check the coolant level.

You say it starts with a jump start? Is that because the battery runs out of power to turn it over? Check the HT leads too - it may not be getting enough of a spark. You'll be able to tell if they're knackered.

Then report back.

 I have had the same problem twice with my A6 2.4 gasoline - the first time the dealer replaced all HT leads (costs a fortune !!). The engine then started but one month later the proble reappeared. They then changed the battery and after that the problem has not reappeared. There is no logic to this solution as there was plenty capacity on the old battery both to turn the engine.
HAs anyone found a solution to this problem?
