Hello,

As per title, the airbag fault light has pinged up on my 2004 2.0 TDI. I hadn't touched anything on the car it just came on whilst driving and now stays on after restarting.

Do I need vagcom to reset it? If so can I buy a cable and software myself from somewhere?

More importantly does this mean ALL my airbags are disabled or just the one that is faulty?

Thanks very much!

That warning light could mean that you have a fault on a particular airbag or connectors/sensors !!.

It is easy to reset but does require vagcom (ask in vagcoms section for someone who has the system who would reset it for you for some beer monies)

Can buy the system but they not cheap.

Thanks for your responses - I am not far from Chester in the North West. Should I post up in the vagcom section?

Thanks.

Hi,

here is the VAG-COM section

http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=211

Take a look in the VAG-COM - Users Locations and find a member near you.

Try member "Eshrules", he lives in Manchester and may be able to help, (it may not be VAG-COM, but he may have a hand held tool which may do it.

Cheers

Rick

Cheers for all your help. I found a VW/Audi specialist that I never knew existed very close to my house.

He only charged £10 to turn it off, which is a damn sight cheaper than a dealer would charge!

It was the drivers side, side airbag that was the culprit. The guy said sometimes a build up of static can set it off. Touch wood it hasn't returned as yet.

Mlance,

If it comes back - there are a few threads here on the subject. Sometimes the underseat wiring connector needs replacing.

Fantastic - its back on again. Happened when I adjusted the seat.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Mlance,

I know what a pain this is. It seems likely that what happened before was that the fault is intermittent and you paid £10 to get teh fault code warning erased but you did not to get the underlying fault fixed.

Well if you adjusted the seat, it seems most likley that the underseat connector is flaky and needs removing (connect the wires together - ideally by soldering & using heatshrink). On my 1999 Passat the faulty connector is the yellow item shown on the atatched (hopefully you can see this picture):->

Of course to be 100% sure, you will need to get a VAGCOm/ VCDS check but if you do not have access to one, the above fix will probably work, will take you 1 hour max and will cost almost nothing.

Good luck
