a3 1.8T FlatSpots and idling problem

I have an S reg a3 1.8 T and when the engine temp is below 90 the car runs fine but as soon as it reaches 90 the problem occurs. no matter what gear you are in it has no power and splutters through the gear, then when you come to a stop the idle drops to 500rpm and the engine cuts out.. can anyone help?? would this relate to the air mass sensor? coild pack?

Unplug the air mass sensor and go for a drive see if it impoves and then come back to us
