smooth gear changes

My son is learning in our recently acquired 1.6FSI 04 plate.

I have noticed that particularly on down gear changes that you have to be very careful releasing the clutch to ensure smooth gear change otherwise you get a bit of a shudder sensation. Even as an experienced driver, I have to be more careful when changing down (compared to my Toyota Auris) to avoid this. However, I test drove a few golfs before buying mine and from memory I seem to remember this seems to be symptomatic of the clutch/engine?

I have never noticed this being an issue but then again I only ever drive VAG cars.

I know what you mean. Every so often I catch myself making a less than smooth change.

I don't remember my Corsa being like that.

That said, tis still the nicest car to drive that I've ever owned!
