Newbie - Steering Wheel Problem

Hi guys

Hope all is well.

I have just purchased a nice 54 Golf 2.0 GT TDI 140 from a friend.

The problem i have is the steering wheel rake/reach does not work.
The lever under he steering wheel feels fine, but the steering wheel does not adjust, only abit of play up and down. Does anyone know ho to fix this.

Any help would be much appreciated.

When you try to move it up or down does it feel like it getting stuck on the plastic housing somewhere??

Sorted now.

I pushed on it really hard and it cracked lose.

I got the car off a mate and he said it had been adjusted for about 6 years.
