whilst driving the car i pressed the button to bring the window down, it did instantly with a bang! i pushed the button to go back up and it did slowly.
now is not working. i can hear the moter when i press the button.
i took the cover off the door and i noticed the wires has snapped,

are these wires part of the regulator?
do i need to replace the regulator?

i couldn't see anything in my Haynes Manuel that helped, i got quoted £84 for a new regulator from Audi the drivers side but i noticed them cheaper else where but i want to make sure I'm buying the right part, thanks

Definetly the window reg and quite a common problem with th a3,
Its not a tricky problem to fix if your quite good at diy but you will need a big rivet gun it replace the regulator rivets.
your looking at £60 + vat for the reg and about 1 hour to fit it.

First you need to take off the door trim pad (couple of phillip scews)
then you need to unplug the window reg and unclip any aditional wires witch clip to the door frame.
next undo the 4 torxs scews witch hold the frame to the door (remembering to mark the two spacers at the bottom for replacment purposes)
lift the frame out unbolt the glass
drill out the rivets for the reg and replace with the new one
bolt the frame back in with the spacers marked as from before
build the door back up and hay prestow job done! :D

Hi buddy was wondering if you might be able to help... I'll give you the full storey:
Window reg suddenly stopped working in my A3 3 door Offside.
Took door off and operated switch - could hear motor trying to work but it was as if it was stuck.
Took the motor off the door and operated switch once again. This time the splined wheel turns.
Put it all back together and operate window which works... however...
The regulator will not keep winding up or down on just one click of the window switch. One has to hold it to keep it winding. If i wind the window to the very top it is like it behaves after one has put ones hand in the window and it senses a jam and stops and retreats 6 inches or so.
Any ideas? New regulator? They're bloody pricey though!

Thanks, Sean

problem,

it could be what happenned to my wifes a3...

on the wirew that runs from the windo motors in the middle of the door card, there are some little 'nubs' and some yellow/blue plastic clips which these nubs sit into therefore allowing the motor to wind the window up, the glass is attached to these blue clips, the nubs have a habit of snapping the clips and not allowing the window to wind up. The wre just runs through the clips without the moving the window...

the wife was told by the local ******** that she needed to new regultors/motors one each side at £250 quid each...

the fix was simple if longwinded and found a great walkthrough on the internet with pics the replacement clips are only 2-3 quid each if that... worth a try....

link to fix here

there was one bit I kept doinf in the wrong order but cant remeber, was towards the end of the process... enjoy
