Just about to take delivery of my GT TDI and I was wondering if I should get the dealer to fit a set of mudflaps. Anyone have an opinion on this?

Most of my previous cars have had mudflaps but I'm worried it might spoil the look of my Golf as I'm getting a Candy White one with optional 18" Bilbao alloys

I'm getting mud flaps fitted by my dealer as part of my original "deal" on a white GT.

They may spoil the lines a bit but then again they will save damage to the underneath and side paint work.

Mudflaps are an easy fit without taking the wheels off, if you use a small socket wrench fitted with a socket the right size to slot in a screwdriver bit of the appropriate torx size.

I certainly wouldn't pay the dealer £70 in labour to fit a £60 set of mudflaps.

If the dealer is fitting them for free then why not?

Had them on my previous 2 Golfs and they look ok. Decided not to get them for the Scirocco - to be honest, they do more to protect the car behind you from stone chips. If those things were neccessary to protect the car, VW would mould them into the wheel arches for about a tenner extra.

The price of them on the Scirocco put me right off £53.60 for a pair! £107.20 for the full set, compared to £60 on a Golf. They're no more sophisticated than the ones on the Golf, just a slightly different shape and smaller.

I wouldn't worry about underside damage unless you plan on keeping the car 10 years, the undersealing on a Golf is pretty thick and tough.

I've fitted them to mine (just the front so far) as maisbitt says they are an easy fix even with the wheel on. They look ok, don't spoil the look imo.

I bought the full set yesterday, not fitted yet, the front ones seem ok very discrete but dont like the back ones at all ruins the looks i think!

Has anyone got a picture of just the front ones fitted, as in a pic of the whole car not just a close up of the mudflaps??

I'll be interested to see how that looks as I have a Candy white Golf with those wheels - but no flaps...

I've had them fitted front and rear, they go very well with the car as its steel grey. I wasn't sure about it before I ordered either but pleased I did. Although when driving in the very heavy rain yesterday I thought the road noise on the car was quite loud and i did wonder if the mud flaps made this worse ?

They go well on my pearl black Golf, too, and because they didn't have them in stock when I collected the car, even though I'd ordered them - they fitted them and the sill and rear bumper guards for free :biglaugh:
