translates to "well done, welcome to wales. how are you today?i live in bwlchygroes. i used to live in milton keynes. what do you do? im a mechanic." or something along those lines anyway. im taking welsh lessons but its such a hard language to grasp, especially when your not good with other languages.

I'm not good with other languages the most I seem to learn is how to count, say please and thank you and the local word for beer. Put them all together in the right order and you normally have a good trip abroad.

Actually we only have 20 letters in the Welsh alphabet. We don't use k, j, q, v, x and z, although things like ll, dd are counted.

And we live in the worlds biggest theme park ... you have to pay (lots!!) to get in

i never grudge paying the entrance fee though, in fact i love it, because it means im only 2 hours from home. and do you ever hear of anyone moaning about how much it costs to fly to australia or america, or use the channel tunnel. no, they just pay it and get on with it. if you want to come to wales, you have to pay, or take a 2 hour detour. simples. at least it keeps some of the english riff raff out.

Im 1/4 welsh and when i was younger my mum and gran (gran was 100% welsh) tried teaching me and my 4 brothers, all i can remember is NO and School today, altho i wouldnt be able to spell either of them lol

my family still own our stately home on brecon beacons, my mum took us there, it was the house she lived in for the first few years of her life, NO running water (apart from the stream outside) and it now has 3 walls and no roof, my mums in her late 50's i cant believe that there was no running water 50 yrs ago, we will be making the trip there again this summer.....cant wait

I live in welsh-wales boyo (even just writing that makes me sound like Windsor Davies)

But, as a local prominent welsh speaker once told me, "If Welsh language is not spoken within the home, you can be sure it won't be spoken outside of it"

so, as well as 'tacsi', there are other great motoring terms:

egsosts
batris
siocs
teiars
ambiwlans

and other dietary essentials, such as: pitsas and byrgyrs

ah yes, Welshiau is such an original language

but you can't cook those in a 'popty ping'

I don't know where this popty ping has come from. That just means ping oven. It's microdon. Micro-Wave. Wave is Ton or don if you mutate it. Thats your welsh lesson for today people. Lol.

or would it become ffwrndon?

But there is the Popty-Ping Recording Company, who say:

"We're welsh, well part welsh. we're going to release a series of tracks from lovely bands. they'll all be on vinyl 7". they're going to be tracks we think are brilliant. we're probably going to lose lots of money. we arent fascinated by microwaves. we do think it's an ace word though".

Lol. Ffwrndon would be wave oven. I suppose you could say ffwrn microdon. Microwave oven.

Well the only Welsh I can easily recall after 6yrs of school is- ' Rhydw in hoffi sglodion'. Spelling is probably wrong.
However this phrase has served me well from Glasgow to Istanbul in discouraging beggars. They either don't understand and think I don't speak english or they do and think I'm a nutter, either way they leave.
