Is it possible to retrofit one? Could someone post up a few pictures if they've got one so I can see how it looks?
Drove one of our Directors A4 Avants the other day and the armrest was a really nice little extra, just wondering about trying to pick one up if it's the same in the Golf.

They sure do...
But ebay maybe able to save you a few quid.. - but give the dealer a call first before buying.

Just spoke to my local VW dealer.
Armrest is £400 for the parts plus 3 hours fitting at £98.50/hour.
Out of interest I asked about the following:
iPod adaptor is £155 fitted.
RCD500 is around £800
6 CD changers is around £360 for the parts and again around 3 hours to fit at the same rate.

Well just to cheer you up if you bought it as an option new, in my (ok late 2007) price book it was £120 inc VAT.
Or you could get one of these and do it yourself... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Genuine-VW-Golf-MK5-Armrest-Fitting-Kit_W0QQitemZ160339443463QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Car sParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2554f9bf07&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A2|39%3A1|72%3A1683|240%3A13 18|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

Yeah I saw that kit. Looks like it might be simple enough for a doofus like me to fit it!
Have rung around a couple of other places to see what they might offer and am waiting for a call back.

Well $339 is around £210... which aint half bad...
Almost worth importing it from them if you can establish that it's compatible.
