Hi All

I ordered new VW Golf Mrk 6. It is going to have new 1.6tdi engine 105ps. Its not the bluemotion one just the normal SE.

According to web site the http://cdn.volkswagen.co.uk/assets/common/pdf/pricelists/golf-vi-pricelist.pdf it says that the exhaust pipes are visible on all models except the 80ps and 102ps models.

But the booklet I got at the dealer says that the 105ps model has no visible exhaust

The publication dates of both the online booklet and hard copy are the same...

I am very confused - anybody any ideas?

So question is - will my car arrive with visible exhaust? I know time will tell but would like to know ...

Not sure myself but why not call round a few dealers and see if they have a demo in so you can have a look :)

I have been to VW Agnew in Belfast and Donnelly in Derry (N.Ireland) - both have the 2.0di but none have the 1.6 in yet.

Just wondering has anyone seen a 1.6 yet?

I had a quick look on VW's used section on the website but couldn't find any of this model - perhaps I missed them. The VW normally has a front + rear exterior pic so should answer your question if you can find one on there.

There are no 1.6 TDI Golfs in the country yet, they have only just started producing them. First deliveries will probably take place in the next few months.

I *think* they have twin tailpipes, but I'm not totally sure.

EDIT: This was the VW Golf 1.6 TDI 105 Bluemotion concept car, and it had twin-tailpipes, so I'd assume the same applies to the production versions:

I have just been on the German VW website - much better than the UK one.

I have basic German and from what I can make out the 1.6tdi 105ps will not have visible exhaust. I had contacted me retailer - they couldnt even tell me.

The operative word there is "concept" - all concept cars look better than reality (my money says that's really a 1.4tsi with different wheels)

the 102 and 80 ps engines on the wesite are only because it has not been updated i asume. if it says in the 1.6tdi booklet that there is no visible exhaust then there isnt. VW are extremly slow at updating the UK website.

Maybe looks like this then.

if it says in the 1.6tdi booklet that there is no visible exhaust then there isnt.I dunno. The brochure for the Golf clearly shows the handbrake on the right of the centre console in every photo even though not a single RHD Mk6 has it there (and some people were talking about it being on the left since the Mk4).

The brochure is no more likely to be correct than the website. Best bet is to phone someone who can give you a definitive answer, maybe VW UK.

I think its safe to assume it won't have twin tailpipes judging by the pictures in the german configurator of the 1.6 TDI, which is usually pretty damn accurate.

AH well

I'm now set on the fact I wont have twin pipes. - all for the sake of the environment....

Its funny how its only 5hp short of the 110hp engine which has twin pipes.

I suppose the extra economy will make up for it.

I sent an email to the VW dealer I ordered the car off asking him at the weekend - he seems a bit reluctant to get back to me.

lol

In theory it should be no slower than the 110bhp engine, as it weighs less and has the same torque. 1.6 is definetely the best choice IMO, anyone who bought a 2.0 110 will probably feel a litle silly now.

Will anyone with the 110hp lend me their pipes? lol:D

But will it remap better than the 1.6? :)

I think the 1.6tdi is at the tail end of its power with 105hp.

I think it will be as fast as it can get - but you never know chip technology is changin al the time and if demand is there then who knows.

The PSA 1.6 HDI 110 (excellent engine) has remap potential, so I don't see why the 1.6 TDI VAG unit won't. The 2.0 TDI 110 was somewhat limited in how much it could be remapped because of the 5-speed gearbox.

I have got my 2.0 tdi 110 bhp remapped to just over 150 bhp and 245lb of torque

I wouldn't have thought the gearbox would affect the mapping...

Incidentally, does the 1.6 diesel have the old 5 sp box?

It does actually, theres only so much torque the gearbox will cope with.

The 5-Speed 1.9 TDI's never mapped as well as the 6-Speeders - http://www.kempower.be/NEWS/vag_group_news.htm

As an example, I quote "NEW The 1.9 TDI 90hp Golf V PD EDC16 ECU gives minimum 140 hp and 300 Nm (limited because of 5 speed gearbox)
The engine is the same as the 105hp version. The engine is only limited by the software. The 90hp version has a 5 speed gearbox and the 105hp version a 6 speed gearbox"

I sit corrected!:Blush2:

Now i am at home and looking at the brochure (the only time i get to see one as i still have not received mine) and it says 'The twin exhaust tailpipe is a distinctive design feature of the new golf, hinting at the power beneath the bonnet'

Excluding 1.4litre 80PS and 1.6litre 102Ps engines.
