My wife has a 1999 golf TDi 1.9 which I have recently discovered has low power steering fluid, she told me that on a hill the power steering pump was groaning rather and lo the power steering fluid reservoir needed topping up.
Whilst getting some fluid at the local ***********, somebody there said that a common fault on the golf is that the power rack hoses become porous and leech out fluid hence the loss.
Has anybody had a similar experience?
I have topped it up and will check it after a few hundred miles.
