Passat car alarm

I there,
It seems that I have to press the car key ring 3 times to get the car alarm to turn on, indicator lights flash and the little red light on the drivers lock flashes. Shouldn't I only have to press it once!

I'm sure I've read this somewhere before!! The answer is Yes, you have a fault somewhere!
