Help!!! My engine management warning light came on just after my car was Mot'd, my mate has put his geniscan into the socket and the fault code is vag 17748. The diagnostic manual that comes with the geniscan describes the fault as:camshaft/crankshaft sensors b/2 out of sequence. My car is a SEAT LEON S 1.4 16v ie. VW 1.4 DOHC engine. Can anybody explain this description as I do not want to go to the expense of buying a crankshaft sensor and camshaft sensor if they are not needed?

Hi Thanks for the speedy reply , my timing belt was changed at approx 50,000 mls as per service schedule which was well over a year ago. the car is now sitting at just over 60,000 mls with no loss of power. but funnilly enough or not my car failed its MOT for the catylytic converter Ouch! and the whole lot had to be replaced , It was when the mechanic was driving the car back from the MOT station after the catylytic converter had been replaced that the engine management light came on

ok did they damage the crank shaft sensor wiring when installing the cat. as you need to run the engine for about 20 mins b4 a fault will trigger the fault light.
has the diagnostic tool you used got a live data option so you can see if its giving an engine rpm output, if not try to find someone nearby with vagcom
hope this helps paul

Thanks for another speedy reply!
1) I will check and see if the wiring is damaged ( if I can find out where it is located on the engine - there is no haynes manual for my model so i went into my local library , they had the haynes volkswagen manual which covered the 1.4 dohc engine but there was no illustration or description as to where it is located! )
2) i don't think the diagnostic tool has a live data option , but I will find out!
