Even though i joined up many moons ago, this is my first post.

Anyway....

Having sold my MK5 GTI a few months ago, due to the high fuel costs, and getting a Leon FR TDI 170, i have now had enough of the rattly, noisy and smelly diesel engine.

So, i thought that i would try out the new 1.4 TSI engine, my first choice was the up-coming Ibiza Cupra, but with all the production delays it would another 3 months until i could get one.

That brought me to the new MK6 Golf GT 160, and after a short search, i found one , in Candy White, close to home that was listed as second hand, but on visiting the VW dealership, its was in fact brand new and unregistered.

It also had the 18In Vancouver Alloys fitted, along with the upgraded RCD510 touch screen head unit.

A poor photo from the advert, probably taken on a dealer employee's phone...

Welcome! :)

Looking at your joining date and as you mention how long it took for your first post I'll expect your response in June 2011! LOL!

I really hope you enjoy your new Golf, mine is my first VW and so far its been extremely pleasing. Granted not everything is perfect, but what car is, however on the whole its an excellent car with a lot going for it.

WeegieBob.

Thanks WeegieBob.

I have no idea why i havn't posted before now, anyway, this will be my 4th Golf, and touch wood i havn't had any major problems so far.

The only thing that i'm worried about is the tiny 1.4 engine, being used to S3's, VR6's, GTI's and Focus ST's, it may be a bit of a culture shock.

You know of my ST's then mate? :)

Yes had some awesome ST's 9The latest one below) but needed a change after leaving as co owner of the fordstowners club, hence why after much searching I settled on the Golf GT. Although I must admit I am being tempted by my mate to go and buy an RS .................:()

Ahhh the memories..................

I was a member of the focusstownersclub, having owned a couple of them myself.

That facelift ST looks stunning.

Thanks WeegieBob.
The only thing that i'm worried about is the tiny 1.4 engine.

Don't be too worried, i got one this week and today got up to 170km/h quite quickly without going over 4000rpm (well i'm pretty sure i didn't). So i'm still running her in nicely.:beerchug:

Quickly - it'll happily and quietly do (an alleged) 110 effortlessly.

That's 110 KPH obviously. Y'honour.....

Cough cough :)

Well, its on my drive, but as im out on the **** tonight i wont have time to get any pics.

I will take some in the morning, weather permitting.

Also, i am having the paint professionally prepared, protected and detailed on Saturday, so the better pics will posted after that.

As for the car itself, it looks and drives fantastic, its much smoother and quieter than the Leon FR TDI, but as yet, not as quick.

Obviously im not using the full rev range, as its brand new, and also the engine and gearbox feel very tight, so once it has done a few miles im sure it will be great.

Fine here. Very nice car. Do you have any more shots of the interior?

Only thing don't get is why people would ever choose a 3 door car over a five door?:p

Surely for the one occasion you really needed to get your granny or someone's child in the back seat, the five door would be worth it and what advantages does a three door hold over a five door?

Lovely car though nwhiteley and congrats.

There are very rarely more than 2 of us in the car, so i have no need for a 5DR car, and if i did, i have access to an estate anyway.

I can take some of the interior if you like, and i will post them later on.

Neil, how do you find the ride, the grip and the road noise on those Vancouvers ? Do you have Michelin Exaltos on them ?

The ride is fine, it is certainly less harsh than my previous car, A Leon FR TDI, which was very crashy at times. It is fitted with Dunlops, i think, and there is only a small amount of road noise, which im sure is diminishing as they bed in.

Seems as though VW fit whatever they have in at the time. Some have Michelins, others have Dunlop, and I have Bridgestone Potenzas.

I reckon Vancouvers are the best looking...probably why I chose them. I know what you mean.....in most of the pics, they do have them.

Looks fabulous in white. :D

Because some people think the 3-door looks better than the 5-door - not that I'm biased or anything. :p;)

WeegieBob.

OH, i totally agree with WeegieBob, the 3dr does look miles better than the 5dr ;)

One thing that could make the car look better are side skirts, not like the tiny black ones on the MK6 GTI, but like the colour coded ones on the MK5 R32

Not keen on the Bridgestones. On my MK5 GT Sport 170 TDI they were neither grippy nor hard wearing (surely you should get one or the other, a soft-wearing tyre should have decent grip!). A change to Dunlops was a big improvement.

Dunlops are the best all rounders for me - continentals aren't a bad 2nd choice. Michelins have always worn well for me too.

VW don't seem to be consistent in their tyre choices, you can get 2 VWs of the same type, with the same wheels that were built a few weeks apart and have totally different tyres on them.

I do like the fact that VW's choice of tyres generally give at least a 6mm lip overhang on the sidewall that makes it that little bit harder to kerb the wheels.
