Guys I am back for some advice and recommendation.

I am wanting to replace my stock suspension/springs setup with a decent aftermarket kit as car still in warranty (2 1/2 years to go).

I wish to drop the car a little but not sure which setup/kit is best suited for my GOLF MK5 GTI DSG 5 DOOR and dont want to ruin anything else in the process.

I'm not wanting silly low and dont really want a rock hard ride either as the car is used as a family mode of transport at times.

Main reason for lowering is for the looks, secondly for slightly better road handling now that I have had it remapped.

Any feedback, advice or recommendations welcome.

Regards.

Get Eibach Pro Springs, tey work with standard shocks. you won't be disappointed, don't put coilovers on...you will hate the ride ;)

Thanks for the reply R-man.

The Eibach Pro Srings you mention, what kind of drop will they give and will they be ok with the factory shocks, ie wont cause long term over-wear or damage as I have heard scary stories of folk changing springs and not shocks and the shocks end up getting shocked due to the extra work/pressure caused by the lowering springs

they only lower upto 15mm on a GTI. If you want to drop further then is eibach sportline springs, but the ride then will be allot harder, they then say you need to change the shocks as well.

If you want a drop with no real increase in ride harshness then Pro-kit is the best choice. anything else will mean a compromise in 'Normal' ride quality.

That sounds ok as I am only after a lower look not bum scraping low ! Just concerned about the shocks as some forum members talk about just changing the springs to then find out that they have damaged there shocks due to this ? :(

A guy at work has put the same make on his Focus ST and he has done 20+ laps of the Nürburg-Ring, some sub 10 min laps and he hasn't broken any of his shocks.....he has bent a few wheels though!!!!

They are just great spring for lowering without feeling like you replaced your suspension with stone.

Don’t fit coil lovers, they will ruin the car. The Vogtland A Sport kit is very nice, only lowers a factory sports kit equipped car by 10-mm (25-mm on standard factory suspension) and the ride is firm but not unpleasant. The springs are made in Germany and the dampers by a line supplier to Seat.

Eibachs it is then.

Any info on where I can source them cheap (cheaper then fleabay if possible) and fitted locally (West Yorkshire area) and how much would fitting cost ?

Cheers

:D

FREE fitting would be a god send, especially with the current credit crunch and all the blooming money I am spending on the car at the mo ! :D

all the blooming money I am spending on the car at the mo ! :D

Thats your choice, a standard GTI would do me :D

I suspect if you buy the springs a good local garage would fit them for a good price ;)

Well the springs have been fitted and this how it looks. A subtle drop, nothing too severe or drastic bum scraping ;)

Thank you :beerchug:
Handling is so much better and most importantly, it doesnt bounce/roll on bends which was my main reason for replacing the springs after the looks of course ;)
