I've been reading about the new 1.2 TSI engine that will feature in the new Polo and how it will also be used as the base engine for the replacement Audi A3. Has anyone heard whether / when it might feature in the MK6 Golf? Possible replacement for the 1.6 I assume?

I didn't read it on the net Stewy. It is in an article on the new A3 replacement (due 2011) in Autocar 06/05/09 (page 10 if you can get your hands on a copy). It basically says that the new 1.2tsi 105bhp is due to replace the 101bhp 1.6 as the entry level engine. There may be a copy on the Autocar website. I was making the assumption that it would be used in the Golf to help lower C02 and improve economy.........

Looks like it might just be a turbo instead of twincharge.

Just a low-pressure turbo on the 1.2 TSI, similar to the 122PS 1.4 TSI.

It should replace the ancient 102PS 1.6 in the MK6 Golf at some point, but no-one seems to know when. The idea will be for it to over time replace the 1.6 in all VAG cars (except maybe the Beetle).

I'd imagine it will quickly become the best selling engine in the Golf range, as its got enough power and will ultimately cost less to buy and be more economical than the 1.4 TSI 122PS.

For those worried its slow, don't be, the initial review of the 1.2 TSI Polo suggest its quite sprightly and theres more torque than the 1.6 had.
