Hello There,

I have a 1998 A6 and need to buy a cable to do some diags. Firstly can anyone tell me where the socket is located ( on my A4 it was under the centre console ), and secondly what type is it i.e 16pin single or 2x2 socket type.

Thanks a lot.

Just above your right foot / shin when sitting in the car, it will be a redish colour. Standard OBD2 connector

Buy a KEY - USB from Ross-tech. the cheap crap you get on ebay won't have all the features

Buying from ross tech you are supporting an excellent and cheap product when you consider the equivalent for BM or MERC is over 2k

Last time I did a scan on an Audi (It was an A4 though) it was at the back of the centre column, behind the handbrake, and under a drinks holder.

Is the Ross-tech software shareware?

You can get shareware with reduced features.

I paid around £170 and that is for full version from ross-tech

I purchased a KWP2000 complete with software and I am also a bit upset as I cannot get the OBD to work.:zx11: It appears that neither one of us made a good choice unless someone can supply details on how to get working.;)

Are you sure you have a 'Can Bus' cable not a serial cable. Regards Peter

Thanks Peter for you response how ever I am unsure if the cable is a 'can bus' cable. I received 4 cables with the purchase and the interface between the PC and KWP2000 unit is a USB lead, whilst the KWP2000 unit and socket (by handbrake) lead appears to have all the relevant connections.
The instructions on using the unit requests for the instrumentation fuse to be removed before using the unit (fuse 15 mine does not have fuse 11). The mileage and clock switch off when the fuse is removed however as soon as you switch on the key both start working again. It appears that I have to remove the ECU and connect using a multi plug lead, a lead I dont think I have. Not very user friendly if you have to remove the ECU everytime you wish to carry out OBD.
