I have a 2001 Beatle with a 2.0 The Red overheat light comes on and stars flashing. I replaced the Thermostat with no change. The previous owner did not maintain well so with the car being 9 years old I replaced the Radiator and flushed the rusty water out of the system. But I still have the same problem. No coolant is leaking out. It does not seem to be a head gasket but you never know. Is their a special way to get the air out of the system I am missing? Is their an issue with the cooling system on this engine I need to check?
Update: Found the problem. The wounderful Plastic impeller came apart on the Water Pump. I am in the process of changing the water pump and timming belt now. A plastic impeller is stupid to put on any car. I expect to see garbage like this on a Ford not a VW.
