Hi All, newbie heare. After 28yrs with the same company, i'm now surplus to requirements, which means my beloved MG ZT 190 has to go. (26mpg, £400 rfl) So i'm now looking at buying a 2006 ish Golf Mk5 1.9 tdi Sport or se. Does the Sport come with a standard 6 speeder or is that an option, and does it give the car anything over a five speed, e.g. better economy, more relaxed cruising. I have to admit it, the cruise control of the se is calling! But i like the more aggressive front and larger alloys of the Sport. Which would you choose for around 10grand?

Thanks for reading
Alan

The SPORT does come with a useful 6 speed gearbox (better than the 5 speed for motorway cruising) but the 1.9 TDi SE and SPORT have identical fronts. The agressive front you refer to can only be found on the 2.0 TDi GT or GT SPORT from models built in mid 2006 (GT) onwards and an even more agressive front from models built in mid 2007 (GT SPORT) onwards. Here are some pics :D

1.9 TDi SPORT

then buy the one that suits you and change the front end yourself. Its easy to do and there are 2 different ways of doing the job.

My way (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=45830)and the Vagen way (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=45830).
