Hi,

I'm planning on putting on some 17 RS4s onto my 2002 A3. Currently, the ride is perfect, like driving on glass. What tyres would I have to buy to preserve this? I don't want it to feel like a go kart with ridiculously low profile tyres!! What would be the biggest profile tyre I could fit onto the rims themselves? Can anyone recommend any sizes?

Thanks!

You should use 225/45. It's the recommended size for 17" rims and the only one that will maintain the total wheel diameter (tyre + rim).

I had 15" rims on my 2003 A3 1.9TDi and the car handled like a boat and was actually scary to drive fast. When I switched to 17"s (RS4s as it happens) the improvement was unbelievable. Handles properly and feels well secure around corners but still had a good, but not overly wallowy, ride.
