Hi I have a Passat B5 estate 1.9 TDI 130 - when the dogs are in the boot & the kids in back seats the car looks very low on the back end which creates a slight 'V' effect when towing the caravan. Has anyone fitted spring assisters to this car?, do they work? & do they know what brand & size needed. Thanks mark

Hi Mark
We have the same problem, two 6 foot teenagers on the back seats and two big dogs in the boot, (german shep and akita). was thinking of uprated springs, but may just try assisters!! at least they are cheaper, and go from there. ebay seems to be the place.

Hi. i had two B5 eststes and both of them i fitted "MAD" springs about £90 a pair they fit inside the original coils and are easy to fit i fitted them to mine in about an hour and a half to do both sides. i also tow a caravan and carry the full awning in the boot along with gas bottle and 2 150ah 12v batteries and the car and van sit level with the family in the car. i would recomend these without any hesitation...

I have had a Passat and now have an A4, I move a lot of stuff for work in it and tow a caravan too, all I did was fit some Graystons, they are a rubber ring that just pushes inside the coil of the spring to prevent full compression, cheap and work a treat, Part number 51 for the Passat/A4

i'm probably telling my granny how to suck eggs here, but don't raise the car too much
(assisters probably won't),as it's not a good thing to tow a caravan "nose up".
much safer nose down,
regards,
stewy.

I got mine fromTowsure they doo work, I have a 115bhp passat estate TDI sport.

Jack up wheel, make sure you soke the assistors in hot soapy water, wear gloves (very hot!) slip them in and let em cool, job done, when I tow the caravan it doesn't bottom out.

Hope this helps
PS make sure you get the correct size assistors I think the towsure site has a guide for sizing.

Hi, sorry I mean't to reply to this thread I put on in August. I fitted MAD coil spring assissters to my B5 estate in July from www.comptek.co.uk (http://www.comptek.co.uk) at £90. They have made a massive difference, no bottoming out, the car & caravan sit level with the van nose slightly down instead of the V effect. A very stable & comfortable towing experience. Would recommend to anyone, took me about 2 hrs to fit.

Only use this car a a 2nd tow car now however as went an bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee so any towing problems should be a thing of the past, although not towed with it yet!
