Beetle Roof Problem

Hi guys,

tried to do a quick search on the forums for an answer but couldnt see anything. Hoping someone might be able to help.

My boss has a 53 plate 2.0 beetle convertible. He loaned it to me last weekend as I needed a 4 seater car. Tried to put the roof down (which i have done previously when borrowing it) and had a slight issue.

I uncliped it on the header rail, pressed the button, and it went back, but didnt click into place. From this point on, it would do nothing, wouldnt go up or down when i pressed the button. Thankfully the manual was in the car so i found how to put it back manually. Tried it again, the roof went back as it did before, but still didnt lock into place and again refused to do anything.

Anyone any ideas? Is it common? Easy to fix? Need a specialist?

It needs a fault code read to see what is wrong, probably a switch fault.

Ok thanks for that. Any recommendations in the Edinburgh Area other than VW themselves?

No idea up there, there is Start Performance but I don’t know how far they are from you.
