Total power loss

Hi;

2005 B6 Tdi Passat, driving as normal, sudden loss of power + dash dead, frightening.:mad:
Ok again after approx 5 minuts, repeated 5 times in 2 weeks.
Diagnostics showed nothing unusual. Eventually confirmed Ignition Relay 460 as having a intermittent open circuit in its coil. €10 from scrappie.
Thankfully, Not a common issue.:Blush:

How was that diagnosed then?

HI;

By individually unplugging the relays behind the flip-out stowaway on the drivers side I could mimic the problem/symptoms (i have no wiring diagrams etc)
The only relay that reproduced the symtoms was the Relay '460', I then connected thin fly wires to 2 of the relay pins (coil activation power Terminal 85 and Ignition power out Terminal 87) and plugged it back in. By then driving and monitoring the two leads until the fault occurred I was able to see that the relay power was active but there was no ignition power. Continuity tests on the relay coil then confirmed the relay coil was open circuit.
