Has anybody fitted after market reverse parking sensors to a Golf Mark 5?

I am considering fiiting some "Dolphin Audio" ones from www.parkingsensors.co.uk (http://www.parkingsensors.co.uk)

I imagine the fit would be relatively straight forward with the exception of connecting the electrics up to the reversing light.... as its in the rear tail gate!

Has anybody fitted these and found an easy solution?

Also has anybody noticed whether the rear bumper has "guides" on the inside moulding to show where the factory fitted sensors would go?

All help appreciated!

Hi, I have had sensors added to mine (after-factory) however did not do them myself. I got my local place, called AUDIO IMAGES (BRADFORD) www.audioimages.co.uk (http://www.audioimages.co.uk) to do them for me as they are an after market fitting agent for our local Mercedes, BMW, Audi and VW (and possibly others).

The sensors were fitted as per vw spec, ie, measurements of sensors in rear bumper etc and look as good as factory fit.

If you need any measurements or pics then let me know and will help as much as I can.

Hi I would appreciate the measurements and some pics as this is a job I am about to tackle including a towbar at the same time. Regards and Thanks.

Hello all. This info may help others also you are considering fitting rear parking sensors on their MK5 Golf. Mine have been fitted to factory spec (give or take a point of an inch).

Sorry about the dirty car pics but weather crappy to wash at mo and busy with work. The pics give you an idea how they will/should look once fitted.

The measurement diagram pic covers the measurements which I have measured in inches and are to the closest point of an inch. Other pics show what the sensors look like etc.

Thanks for the responses, but I am still struggling to work out which wire in the loom to connect the sensor to. Obvioulsy I am looking to attach it to the one for the reversing light, but I can't identify which one it is.

The reversing light is in the tailgate and I can identify which group of wires goes off up towards the tailgate, but they disappear behind some trim (and into a harness) which I am reluctant to remove as it contains an airbag.

Does anybody know the colour of the wire that powers the reverse light?

Or, anybody know where I can get the correct wiring diagram from?

Help gratefully received.

Hi, have had a look on the world wide web and found the following which I am hoping will be of some use.
Apparently the wire that you need is shown below.

Red Wire - Connect to the Reversing light positive feed.
Black Wire - Connect to a negative power supply (Ground/Car Body).

Let me know if it works.

Cheers and hope the pics etc were of use.

Thanks for your help, however that has not helped as I already know which wires in the kit need to go to the power and to the earth. What I don't know is the colour of the wire in the loom that powers the reverse light...

Does anybody have a Haynes manual for the mk5 golf who can look this up for me?

Thanks again

i had a similar issue whan locating the fog light wire when fitting my 12s electrics. What i did was go direct to the wires as thel leave the bulb holder before they dissaper in to the loom.

The mk5 tailgate has 2 rubber tubes going from tailgate to body, both carry wires. See my how to guide for fitting a towbar. http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=13686

i just fed a new wire down one of the rubber tubes. This was ver fiddley.

wire that travel up these tubes arein pairs, so there are 2 wires for Reverse, Fog, lock solenoid, heated screen, aerial (in my case) wiper motor and a water pipe.

on inspection i found all wires were the same colour or a mix of 2 and it was impossible to tell which wires went down which rubber tube.

Hope this halps.

The reversing light feed according to Elsawin from the power supply modual (in the dash space) is blue and black and the earth is brown up to a connecter (T5a) behind the left (nearside) boot trim. from this connecter it changes colour to white (positve) up to the bulb holder and keeps to brown for the earth.
PM me an email adress and I will send you the diag.
Getting at it is not too bad according to the workshop instructions.
