1.3 timing

hi i have a 1985 1.3 golf and was wondering the best way to set the timing i have a strobe light if this helps and also what is the gap in the points cheers.

you will need the strobe light connected to number 1 plug

timming on the 1.3 should be 4 to 6° BTDC
you should see the timming marks on the bottom of the timming belt housing i think.

mark them and the TDC mark on the pully with a little tipex.
makes it dead simple as the tipex shows up bright white under the strobe.

best too do that with normal engine temp.

Don’t forget it is vacuum off. The points are best set up with the distributor removed from the car and the top bearing plate must be on when setting the gap. If the distributor is a Ducellier, check the top bearing for wear.
