How do you obtain the KEY CODE for a replacement key?

i am in the process off buying a new key as a spare but....VW want to charge me £160...and was wondering whether there is a cheaper way to do this or is there a way to find out the key code?

have a look at the above and then ask around on here for someone local with vagcom and the experience to help you out.

It may be that you have to getthe actual number from VW but then coding the key withvagcom and hopefully a few beers.

Though I have vagcom I have not done that myself as yet but would like to know

Ring an auto locksmith. Tell them your reg and they will tell you if it can be done without going to vw for the keycode.
