Was driving along and got a bleep and a warning "EMISSIONS WORKSHOP". Plugged the laptop in and VAG-COM said "EGR Valve beyond limit of adjustment" or something similar. Took the engine cover off and noticed that the vacuum hose to the EGR valve was worn away at the point where the plastic engine cover just touches it. Cut off the end of the hose and reconnected it. Problem solved!
