On the A3 1.8, does anyone know why the ABS light comes on at 18mph? All wheel sensors ok. TIA.

Hi Have you had a fault code read?

yes had it scanned. It came up hydraulic pump motor outside signal problem. Changed ABS unit, exactly the same. TA

check the fuses under the cover on top of the battery. sometimes they corrode and throw up ABS faults. if they are ok then i would assume the wiring to be at fault.

i changed the sensor and it was fine for a few days but i think a layer of dirt has come between the sensor and the copper commutator.
would this effect the sensor enough to cause a fault lamp to appear?
the last sensor melted in the bracket and i only wanna take it all apart again if that seems to be the fault

did u change the 3 30amp fuses on top of the battery? try that first as fuses are cheap. when u changed the ABS unit did you use another with the same code? or did you get the new one reprogrammed? if yes then try the fuses and clear the codes on the ECU and take it out for a spin. hope that helps.

Hi just wondering if you can help me, i have just got an ABS Pump from a breakers which is the same code as the one currently on my A3 Quattro and i was advised that the system needs to be bled off after fitting the pump.

Does a main dealer have to do this or does anyone know anywhere in the north east what will be able to do this.

Thanks for any replies in advance.

cheers

Hi, yes the system will need to be bled. Any reputable garage will be able to do this. Becasue you got one with the same code it shouldnt need reprogramming asuming you are changing the ABS controller aswell. What made you replace your pump?

Hi thanks for the reply,

The vagcom threw up the code for abs hydraulic pump , replaced the lateral acceleration sensor a few month back too.

Went to a vw/audi specialist today and he said he does not have the machine to bleed the system and i would have to go to the dealers to get it done which is going to become expensive.

thanks

a machine? first i have heard that you need a machine to bleed the pump! Il have to remember that.

I had a code for my pump a few months ago but havent had it since. im going to replace the ABS controller only on mine as it seems like an electrical fault rather than a mechanical 1.

I'm not sure if this is relevant but my ABS light came on and it stopped working. I don't have access to VAGCOM so I have no idea what code is what, I just took the sensors off, cleaned them and put them back on. The light went out and the ABS worked fine.
