Dear all

Im thinking of buying a 99 or 01 A6 and would prefer the saloon but the practicality of the Avant is tempting. Can anyone tell me if the rear seats fold in the A6 saloon ?

Thanks all for your help.

There is a fixed single peice rear seat and a split folding version. Regards Peter

The Avant is incredibly practical, and imho a better shape than the saloon. On the space - I fitted two (very chunky) single mattresses in the boot a week back without any issues on space whatsoever.

A friend says that his saloon has electric rear seats. Haven't seen it to confirm though.

I'd put another vote for the avant.

In mine, you can fit (although not at the same time):

A fridge freezer (1.8m tall)
A chest freezer (although it did need laying on its back)
A fridge (without having to put the back seats down!)
A cross trainer

All of these went in with space to close the boot.

And I personally think it looks as good, if not better than the saloon version.

My A6 saloon has the fixed (unfolding) rear seat bench.

If you're looking at a saloon, grab the service book and input all of the option codes from the front cover into this (http://igorweb.org/equidec/Default.aspx). Then you will know if you have the split folding or fixed rear seat bench.

If you see code 3ND then it is a fixed seat bench. ;)

With regards to whether saloon or Avant looks better, in standard form I'd say the bootlid of a saloon looks boring and the Avant wins, but once a spoiler is fitted to the saloon it's a much closer contest. :approve:

Apart from those massive mecchano spoilers, which really do spoil it! And that's another thread. ;)

My eyes are hurting.

My Avant is the first car I've had where I'd be happy to leave it just the way it is.

I like the boot spoiler on the saloon. Who supplies those and how are they attached. Regards Peter

I've fitted one of those spoilers to mine, Peter. You can fit it yourself, it's not that difficult.

Only £40 delivered from Germany. You can buy them off eBay here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUDI-A6-C5-TRUNK-LIP-SPOILER_W0QQitemZ200320991925QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK _CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item200320991 925&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1689%7C66%3A4%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A200).

I'll take some pictures and post them here for you later Peter. I highly recommend them, all you need is some paint, some special fluid to put on the spoiler to help bond the paint (I've forgot the name, I'll get it for you later) and then lacquer it. The spoiler sticks with self-adhesive strips, and because it is a plastic spoiler it requires the special bonding.

You can buy genuine Audi paint here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Audi-genuine-paint-spray-set-Name-your-colour_W0QQitemZ110288198795QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_ CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item1102881987 95&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1689%7C66%3A4%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A200), all you need to do is supply your paint code and it comes direct from Stafford Audi. That's what I did.

Yes, the saloons do look good with the small spoiler on it. When I was looking at A6's, I first looked at a saloon. The boots are big, I took the baby's pram to see how much room would be left with that in, and it still had a lot of space left for shopping and stuff.

Then I looked at an Avant, if its practicality you want then get an Avant, the boot space is enormous, with the back seats down (they don't fold completely flat and split 70/30) it's huge! Its so useful to have all that space....

I got mine because of my 2 young kids and associated luggage needed, especially when we go away for weekends, and IMHO I do think the Avant does look better.........

Good Luck,

I've only had one little problem with the load space on mine.

The car has the cargo net attached to the back of the rear seats, except it appears to be screwed onto one side of the split - so you can only put down one side on its own.

Can that cargo net be removed? I doubt I'll ever use it .....

It's attached to the wider side of the split seat, so you can only put down the smaller side on its own.

Yes, it can be removed.

Hi probably a bit slow to help but here it is anyway - my A6 quatro saloon 3.0DTI 2006
split folding and locking with ignition key seats was an option at new but the offset
is they come with plastic hard shell backs for wear and tear - just not too pretty.
I also paid 200 Quid for black roof lining from S line so they are out there keep looking

Hope you find it
