My rear wiper has developed a mind of its own. The other day I switched it on accidentally and it wiped continuously and wouldn't switch off.

The only way I could stop it was driving with the hatch only half shut.

It settled down. Then, two days later, it wouldn't work at all.

It's now working again on intermittent.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Sounds like your wipermotor electronics are playing up to be exact integrated circuits, transistors and diodes where in the olden days you used to have contacts for the park position! The rear hatch-lock microswitch sends a signal the rear door is open to the wiper motor control unit and the control unit cuts power to the motor! The electronics can however play up because the wiper motor is worn out, in either case the assembly would need to be replaced! If it doesn't log any faults in your steering wheel control unit it is most likely a worn wiper motor!
