V5 Egg smell and engine knocking

I have a V5 beetle. Last week whilst driving I heard a kind of whoosh and then a egg smell through the air vents. I then had a engine jolting with the EPC and emissions warning lights coming one. The lights have stayed on and when the car is on tick over, the engine jolts or shakes when reved. I have not drove it since. A friend suggested the CAT may need replacing but i feel its worse than that. Any ideas? Please help!

cats do give off an eggy smell, and the probs you have seem to confirm it.
have a diagnostic check done it, then you'll know exactly what your prob is.. :beerchug:
